On February 17, 2025, Delta Air Lines Flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ-900LR, was arriving from Minneapolis when it overturned upon landing, coming to rest upside down on the runway. All 80 individuals on board—76 passengers and four crew members—survived the incident. Seventeen passengers sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals; fortunately, none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Passenger John Nelson recounted the harrowing experience, describing how the plane “hit the ground super hard” and “went sideways,” eventually flipping over. He noted the chaotic aftermath, with passengers hanging upside down due to their seatbelts before evacuating the aircraft.

Emergency response teams promptly arrived at the scene, assisting in the evacuation and attending to the injured. The airport temporarily suspended operations to facilitate the emergency response and investigation. Deborah Flint, CEO of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, commended the swift actions of first responders, stating that their efforts were instrumental in preventing any loss of life.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board. Preliminary reports indicate that weather conditions at the time included strong winds and recent snowfall, but the runway was reported to be dry, and there were no crosswind conditions during the landing.

This incident marks the second major aviation accident involving a Bombardier CRJ-900 series aircraft in 2025, following a mid-air collision near Washington, D.C., in late January.
