Escalating Violence in Chikhali: Businessman Attacked, Crane Damaged in Kudhalwadi; Police Register Case Against 25
Pune : A seemingly minor dispute over vehicle positioning escalated into a brazen act of group violence in Chikhali, Pune, leading to the assault of a local businessman and significant damage to his property. Chikhali Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against seven named individuals and 20-25 unidentified assailants, though no arrests have been made as of the latest reports.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, between 6:30 PM and 6:40 PM, near Rehmani Weighing Scale and King Weighing Scale in Kudhalwadi, Chikhali. According to the complaint filed by Yaqub Haji Sayyadkhan (54), a resident of Purnanagar, Chinchwad, the initial confrontation began between his crane driver, Rehman Khan, and a ‘Chhota Hathi’ tempo driver, Lallavu Rehmani, over the optimal positioning of a crane. The tempo driver reportedly summoned Javed Rehmani (accused no. 1), which further intensified the argument with the crane operator.
As the situation grew tense, Sayyadkhan’s sons, Haider Khan and Imran Khan, arrived at the scene in an attempt to de-escalate the conflict. However, their intervention was met with verbal abuse and physical assault by the opposing group. The confrontation briefly subsided, only for the accused to return shortly after, fueled by anger and armed with dangerous weapons. This time, the group, comprising the named Rehmani family members—Javed, Juned, Ali, Parvez, Alam, Kashim, and Akhtar—along with an additional 20-25 unknown individuals, came equipped with wooden sticks, iron rods, and ‘koytas’ (sickle-like weapons).
The armed group then confronted Yaqub Haji Sayyadkhan directly. They menacingly demanded, “Where is your son Imran, bring him before us, I will not spare him, and if he’s not found, I will run a vehicle over him.” Following this chilling threat, the assailants allegedly hurled expletives at Sayyadkhan, physically assaulted him, and proceeded to smash the glass of his crane, causing considerable damage. The complainant sustained injuries in the attack, which has left him shaken and his business impacted.
Based on Yaqub Haji Sayyadkhan’s complaint, the Chikhali Police registered a case (B.N.S. No. 691/2025) on October 16, 2025, at 02:29 AM. The accused have been booked under various stringent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 115(2) (abetment of an offence), 352 (assault), 351(2) (use of criminal force), 189(2) (threat of injury to public servant), 191(2) & 191(3) (giving false evidence/fabricating false evidence), 190 (coercion), and 324(4) (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means). Additionally, charges have been filed under Section 4(25) of the Indian Arms Act and Sections 37(1), (3) read with 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, highlighting the gravity of the armed assault and public order disturbance. The Chikhali Police are actively investigating the matter to apprehend the absconding accused and ensure justice is served.
