Noida, India – Less than a month after a “fake embassy” was uncovered in Ghaziabad, Noida has reported a similarly audacious case: a fake police station operating to allegedly extort money from unsuspecting individuals. Noida Police announced on Sunday the arrest of six men involved in running the “International Police & Crime Investigation Bureau,” a fraudulent law enforcement office.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bibhash Chandra Adhikari, Aragya Adhikari, Babul Chandra Mandal, Pintu Pal, Samapadmal, and Ashish Kumar. Hailing from various districts in West Bengal, their educational backgrounds vary from below Class 12 to graduates in law and arts. All six were reportedly residing together at the rented office premises.
According to police, the accused rented the Sector 70 premises on June 4. Within a week, they had installed prominent boards displaying a logo and colors strikingly similar to the insignia of central law enforcement agencies. The gang allegedly boasted connections to Interpol and the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), claiming to investigate “international crimes and criminals” and even maintaining an office in the United Kingdom.
During a late-night raid on August 10, authorities recovered a significant amount of incriminating evidence. This included nine mobile phones, 17 stamp seals, six cheque books, nine ID cards, four boards bearing the bureau’s name, numerous visiting cards, forged ministry certificates, a CPU, and Rs 42,300 in cash. Police also seized press ID cards and purported IHRC IDs, among other paraphernalia.
An FIR has been registered at the Phase 3 police station. The accused face charges under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to impersonation, forgery, and cheating, as well as provisions of the IT Act and the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950.
