FDA Maharashtra Launches AI-Powered Portal for Citizens to Report Food and Drug Safety Concerns

PUNE: In a major push toward transparency and public safety, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Maharashtra has unveiled a new, AI-enabled grievance redressal portal aimed at streamlining how citizens report issues related to adulterated, unsafe, or mislabeled food and drugs.
The initiative, promoted by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, seeks to make the process of lodging complaints faster, more accessible, and highly accountable. With the slogan “Safe Food, Safe Drugs, Safe Maharashtra,” the department is leveraging technology to bridge the gap between citizens and regulatory action.
Simplifying the Reporting Process
The new platform, accessible at https://complaints.mahafda.in, is designed for simplicity. According to officials, the process takes just two minutes and follows three easy steps:
Describe the Issue: Users can either type or speak their grievance in Marathi, Hindi, or English.
AI-Assisted Processing: The platform utilizes an AI-powered assistant that reviews the details provided and formats the grievance, ensuring all necessary information is captured for the authorities.
Direct Official Action: Once submitted, the complaint is automatically assigned to the relevant Food Safety Officer. The system ensures that the grievance reaches the right department, with built-in traceability features that allow citizens to track the progress of their report.
Accountability Through Technology
Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe highlighted the robust nature of the new system in a recent update, emphasizing that the portal is not just a collection point for complaints, but a structured framework for accountability.
“FDA Maharashtra has launched a grievance redressal portal for citizens,” Mundhe stated. “It is an AI-enabled platform featuring auto-assignment, auto-escalation, and built-in accountability with traceability features.”
The “auto-escalation” feature is particularly significant, as it ensures that complaints are not left unattended and are prioritized based on their nature. This digital overhaul is expected to significantly reduce the turnaround time for investigations and increase the efficacy of FDA inspections across the state.
Citizens are encouraged to utilize the portal to report any irregularities they encounter in the marketplace, helping the FDA maintain safety standards across Maharashtra.
