Is Pune Safe for Women? Shocking Attack on Locals Raises Alarming Questions
Pune : In a disturbing incident on the eve of Diwali, a woman and her companion were subjected to a terrifying assault by a group of individuals after a confrontation turned violent. The woman’s ordeal began when the driver of the car MH14 LA 9905, registered to Shila Alok Kamate, threatened her with the words, “Chal re gadi kadh, udavto tumhala, kay karal,” a threatening statement implying harm. The woman, frightened for her safety, started recording the incident, which escalated quickly when the driver’s wife allegedly began physically attacking her, attempting to snatch her phone.
The attack intensified as the couple, reportedly intoxicated, verbally abused and physically assaulted the woman and her companion. They were soon joined by a group of 15-17 individuals, further escalating the situation. The victims, outnumbered and fearing for their lives, tried to defend themselves but suffered injuries during the assault.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the accused reportedly showed no remorse. Instead, the driver allegedly laughed off the incident, underscoring a sense of impunity. This brutal incident, which took place on a festival day, raises serious concerns about safety in Pune for women and locals alike.
A formal FIR has been lodged with local authorities, and the victims have called for accountability and action. “As a woman, I am terrified for my life after this incident,” the victim shared, expressing her fear for safety in her own city. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for enhanced security measures and community awareness in Pune.
The question remains: Is Pune truly a safe place for women and civilians? Authorities are urged to take immediate action to ensure that such incidents are not repeated and that justice is served.
