Pune Man Loses Over ₹10 Lakhs in Online Job Scam

Pune, [August 13, 2025] – A 38-year-old resident of Dhanori has fallen victim to an online job scam, losing a staggering ₹10.66 lakh. The incident, which occurred between May 19 and May 27, 2025, has prompted the Airport Police to register a case and launch an investigation.

 

According to police reports, the victim was contacted by an unidentified individual who promised him a job. The fraudster gained the victim’s trust and sent him a fraudulent link, instructing him to fill out his personal information. The scammer then assigned various “tasks” to the victim, and under this pretext, systematically swindled him out of a total of ₹10,66,674.

 

The Airport Police have registered the case under IPC sections 318(4), 319(2), and section 66(D) of the IT Act. The accused, who used a mobile phone to carry out the fraud, has not yet been arrested.

 

Police Inspector (Crime) Sharad Shelke is leading the investigation. “We are tracing the digital footprint of the accused and urge the public to be extremely cautious of job offers that come with an upfront fee or require them to perform tasks in exchange for money,” Inspector Shelke said.

 

This incident highlights the growing threat of online job scams and serves as a critical reminder for everyone to verify the legitimacy of online opportunities before sharing any personal information or money.
