Pune – A shocking incident of online fraud has come to light in Pune, where an 82-year-old man from Dhankawadi was cheated of ₹30.45 lakh by an unidentified individual in a fake share trading scheme.
According to the Sahakarnagar Police, a case has been registered under sections 318(4), 319(2) of the IPC and section 66(D) of the IT Act. The elderly victim, whose name has not been disclosed, was lured into investing in a fraudulent share trading platform between December 1, 2024, and January 20, 2025.
The fraudster, who is yet to be arrested, gained the victim’s trust and promised high returns on his investments. He convinced the senior citizen to transfer a total of ₹30,45,000 online. The victim realized he had been duped when he stopped receiving any communication and was unable to withdraw his money.
Senior Police Inspector Vitthal Pawar is leading the investigation into the matter. “We are investigating the mobile number used by the suspect to contact the victim. We urge citizens, especially senior citizens, to be cautious of such online investment schemes that promise unrealistic returns,” said Inspector Pawar.
This incident serves as a crucial reminder for everyone to verify the legitimacy of any online investment opportunity before committing any funds.
