MOHALI, PUNJAB – The world of Punjabi cinema is in mourning following the death of beloved actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla, who passed away on Friday at the age of 65.
According to reports, Bhalla, a staple of Punjabi comedy for over three decades, suffered a brain stroke and was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali, where he later died. His last rites are scheduled for Saturday at the Balongi cremation ground in Mohali.
Known for his quick wit, satirical humor, and memorable catchphrases, Jaswinder Bhalla left an indelible mark on the Punjabi film industry. He was particularly celebrated for his roles in blockbuster hits like “Carry on Jatta,” where his character as “Advocate Dhillon” became a household name, and the “Jatt & Juliet” series.
Beyond his cinematic career, Bhalla was also a respected academic, having served as a professor and Head of the Department of Extension Education at Punjab Agricultural University before retiring in 2020. His death has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, colleagues, and political figures, who are remembering his immense contributions to both entertainment and education.
