Pune, July 2, 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been making tall claims about its monsoon preparedness, but the recent flooding in the city has exposed its hollowness.

On Saturday, several parts of the city were waterlogged, including the underpass near Sancheti bridge. The underpass was built at a cost of Rs 10 crore and was inaugurated just last year. However, it was unable to withstand the heavy rains and was flooded within minutes.

The flooding also caused traffic snarls in several parts of the city. The main roads were waterlogged and motorists had a tough time wading through the water. Several vehicles were also stranded in the water.

The flooding has raised questions about the PMC’s monsoon preparedness. The civic body had claimed that it had taken all necessary measures to prevent flooding, but the recent rains have shown that these measures were not enough.

The flooding has also caused damage to property. Several houses and shops were flooded and their belongings were damaged. The civic body has been asked to assess the damage and provide compensation to the affected people.

The flooding has also exposed the poor drainage system in the city. Several areas of the city are prone to flooding, but the civic body has not taken any steps to improve the drainage system.

The recent flooding is a wake-up call for the PMC. The civic body needs to take urgent steps to improve its monsoon preparedness and prevent flooding in the future.
