4 killed, dozens injured in head-on bus collision in Tamil Nadu

A head-on collision between two buses in Tamil Nadu on Saturday killed four people and injured dozens more.

The accident occurred on the Cuddalore-Viluppuram highway near the village of Pattampakkam. Two private buses, one carrying passengers from Chennai to Cuddalore and the other carrying passengers from Tirunelveli to Villupuram, collided head-on.

The impact of the collision was so severe that both buses were completely destroyed. Four people, including the driver and conductor of one of the buses, were killed instantly. Dozens more were injured and taken to hospitals in Cuddalore and Villupuram.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but police believe that one of the drivers may have been speeding or may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

The accident is a reminder of the dangers of road travel in India. India has one of the highest road traffic fatality rates in the world, with an estimated 130,000 people killed on the roads each year.

  • “It was a horrific scene,” said a police officer who responded to the accident. “The buses were completely destroyed and the victims were trapped inside.”
  • “This is a tragedy,” said a survivor of the accident. “I’m lucky to be alive.”

The government of India needs to take urgent action to improve road safety in the country. This includes enforcing stricter traffic laws, improving road infrastructure, and educating drivers about the importance of safe driving.
