DHE puts BA LLB admissions on hold

The Director of Higher Education (DHE) has put admissions to the 5-year BA LLB course in government-aided colleges affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on hold. The decision was taken after the colleges failed to submit the break-up of their exorbitant fees structure and the SPPU fee committee’s approval letter.

The DHE had earlier directed the colleges to submit the fee break-up and approval letter by July 4. However, the colleges failed to do so, citing the absence of a fee committee in SPPU.

The DHE has now asked the colleges to submit the fee break-up and approval letter by July 11. If the colleges fail to do so, the DHE will take further action, including cancellation of admissions.

The decision by the DHE has put students and parents in a spot. Many students have already applied for admission to the BA LLB course in government-aided colleges. However, with the admissions on hold, they are not sure whether they will be able to get admission this year.

The colleges have said that they will move the High Court against the decision by the DHE. They argue that the DHE does not have the authority to interfere in the fee structure of government-aided colleges.

The decision by the DHE is a setback for students who are aspiring to study law. It is also a blow to the colleges, which are facing financial constraints. It remains to be seen how the issue will be resolved.
